The Braves held a day of celebration for beloved third baseman Chipper Jones on Friday, inducting him into the franchise Hall of Fame and retiring his iconic #10.
Jones was arguably the best third baseman of his era and is sure to be enshrined in Cooperstown, however, he will mostly be remembered as a hero within the franchise he spent his entire 19 year career playing for.
Jones entered the league after being selected first overall selection in the 1990 MLB Draft before entering the league as its youngest player in 1993. Over the course of his career, he accumulated 2726 hits, 1623 runs batted in, and 468 home runs with a .303 batting average.
His distinguished tenure in the big leagues also included an MVP award and a World Series win en route to becoming the second leading switch hitter in baseball history behind only Eddie Murphy.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony featured speeches from memorable Braves, most notably Hank Aaron. Jones also gave a vintage Chipper speech for his jersey retirement prior to Atlanta’s game against the Diamondbacks. He was relaxed and jovial as he was throughout his career.
Atlanta defeated Arizona 3-0 with the win going to Julio Teheran.
