Patriots Void Hernandez Contract Guarantees

The New England Patriots have voided the guarantees in former tight end Aaron Hernandez’s contract.

Hernandez signed a five-year, $40 million contract extension last year, and he was set to make $2.5 million a year in guaranteed money for the next two seasons.

Hernandez may also have to fight to keep the $3.25 million he earned as a signing bonus, and the Patriots believe the Collective Bargaining Agreement covers them because Hernandez engaged in conduct “unbecoming” after being arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd.
