Florida Quarterback Signs with Red Sox

The last time that Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel played a competitive game of baseball was as a high school junior. Nevertheless, the current college junior heading into his second season as a full-time starter for the Gators made enough of an impression to be selected by the Boston Red Sox in last month’s MLB Draft.

Eager to keep his options open, Driskel decided to sign with the Sox, who drafted him 863rd overall.

Despite the contract, the Florida signal caller insists that baseball is purely a fallback plan. “Nothing changes,” Driskel declared via Twitter. “I am still a full time student athlete at UF, fully committed to playing football.”

Driskel went on to say that his aspiration is to be an NFL quarterback and will continue to devote his attention to his goals on the gridiron. If the talented and mobile quarterback can refine his skills enough to become intriguing to NFL teams, the Gators could be a national title contender. Florida finished the regular season #3 despite the fact that Driskel ranked 11th in the SEC in passing yards.
