Lee Westwood Looking to Extend Streak of First-time Major Winners

This weekend may be Englishman Lee Westwood’s turn to finally break through on golf’s grandest stage at the Open Championship in Muirfield at Scotland.

Westwood, a perennial contenders at major tournaments who has failed to win one, is at 2-under par going into the will be paired with Tiger Woods, who is also at -2.

As Breitbart Sports has noted, this year has been the year of first-time major winners who were long overdue. Adam Scott, after suffering a heartbreaking collapse at last year’s Open Championship, won the Masters to win his first major. At the U.S. Open, Justin Rose, another Englishman, finally won his first major after years of disappointment. After Scott and Rose won their respective championships, one named continued to be mentioned: Lee Westwood.

It may indeed be his turn.

If Westwood’s putter does not let him down, he can join Scott and Rose and forever have the “best player to have never won a major” label permanently removed.
