Florida Removes Plaque Honoring Hernandez

On Thursday, the University of Florida removed a plaque at the university that honored Aaron Hernandez for his All-American season.

“We didn’t feel it was appropriate to celebrate Aaron Hernandez,” the university said in a statement. “We put together an immediate plan after the initial news broke to remove his likeness and name in various private and public areas in the facility, such as the South End Zone team area, locker room, football offices Heavener Complex Kornblau Lobby and the brick display entrance to the football facility.

Hernandez, who is in jail after being charged with the first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd, won the award in 2009, a season in which he was also named the country’s top tight end.
