It is that time of year where thousands of young athletes are absolutely convinced their coaches are cruel every time they make them run wind sprints. However, a youth coach has established a record of genuine cruelty.
Ron Santos, a youth baseball coach, threw up to 15 pitches at 60-80 miles per hour at one of his teenage players. At the age of 26, he has now been convicted of criminal charges of assault with bodily injury.
Santos claims that he was attempting to teach his players how to take a pitch; however, the bruises on their arms speak to a painful lesson.
He was sentenced to 15 days in jail, given a $500 fine, and has to serve 18 months of community supervision. Santos will continue his work at the “Gear Up Baseball Academy,” but will not be allowed to pitch to players for one year.
