After entering the 7th inning down six runs, the Los Angeles Dodgers capped a three-inning comeback with four runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 in walk-off fashion. David Price pitched 7 strong innings for the Rays, only yielding 1 unearned run, but the bullpen blew his opportunity for the win.
The comeback in the 9th began with a Skip Schumaker single, followed by a Mark Ellis triple. Nick Punto continued the hot start to the inning by doubling and driving in Mark Ellis, cutting the Tampa Bay lead to 6-5. With Punto on second and 1 out, Adrian Gonzalez doubled to tie the game. Yasiel Puig was intentionally walked following the Gonzalez double, bringing up Jerry Hairston Jr.
Tampa Bay pitcher Fernando Rodney got ahead of Hairston early in the count, but then Hairston Jr. hit the ball back to the pitcher and Rodney threw the ball away attempting to throw to first, allowing Adrian Gonzalez to score from second and completing the Dodger 7-6 walk-off win.
Fernando Rodney was given the loss and the Rays squandered an opportunity to gain a game in the AL East standings on the Boston Red Sox, who lost earlier in the day to the Kansas City Royals.
