Former Employee: Chivas USA's 'Mexican Only' Policy Felt Like 'Ethnic Cleansing'

A former employee has accused the Chivas USA soccer club of “ethnic cleansing” of non-Hispanic players and employees in blockbuster lawsuit.

As Breitbart News reported, Cynthia Craig, who is black, filed the lawsuit after she felt like she was forced to leave her job after repeated harassment because she was not Hispanic and could not speak Spanish.

The team’s policies changed as soon as Mexican billionaire Jorge Vergara gained full ownership control.

As soon as Vergara took over, the team began purging players who were not Hispanic, like James Riley, who is part black and part Korean, sending him to Washington D.C.’s team. As Fox News notes, “according to the Chivas USA 2012 and 2013 rosters, since Vergara took over ownership towards the end of the 2012 season, the number of non-Mexican players and staff was cut by more than two-thirds”

The Daily Breeze reported that, Vergara, who had been a part owner of the team, “gained full control of the team in November 2012 and began harassing non-Latino employees. Vergara also owns a Mexican team called Chivas de Guadalajara, which is famous in part because it will not sign non-Mexican players.”

Two other coaches have also filed a lawsuit against Chivas, alleging racial discrimination against non-Hispanics.
