Alex Rodriguez’s new lawyer has alleged New York Yankees president Randy Levine told a surgeon who was going to operate on Alex Rodriguez that he never wanted to see Rodriguez on the field again.
Joseph Tacopina, the brash New York lawyer, told the New York Times that the doctor to whom the Yankees sent Rodriguez, Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, told Rodriguez that Levine said he did not want to see Rodriguez play. Tacopina alleges the Yankees tried to sabotage Rodriguez’s health and have been conspiring with Major League Baseball to get rid of Rodriguez and make him the face of the steroid era.
Rodriguez was suspended for 211 games for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy and is playing while appealing the ban

During the 2012 playoffs, Tacopina said, the Yankees hid from Rodriguez that a magnetic resonance imaging test had revealed that he had a torn labrum — essentially a hole in his hip — and continued to play him, even though he was struggling mightily.
“They rolled him out there like an invalid and made him look like he was finished as a ballplayer,” Tacopina said.

Rodriguez learned the extent of his injuries in the off-season, and the Yankees sent him to Dr. Bryan T. Kelly, a prominent surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. Tacopina said Kelly later told Rodriguez that before the surgery, Levine told Kelly, “I don’t ever want to see him on the field again.”
“It sent chills down Alex’s spine,” Tacopina said.
Rodriguez asked Kelly if Levine’s comment was a joke, Tacopina said, and was told that “it wasn’t a joke.”
“They did things and acted in a way that is downright terrifying,” Tacopina said, referring to the Yankees.
According to the Times, “Kelly, through a lawyer, would not confirm that the statements were made.”
