Lois Ann Goodman is suing the Los Angeles Police Department for false arrest and malicious prosecution after she was cleared in her husband’s death.
Her lawyers released the lawsuit on Friday. It says “she suffered humiliation, damage to her career and physical pain from her confinement in jail.”
In April 2012, Goodman’s husband Alan died in their home. At first, authorities thought he slipped and fell, but the mortician found suspicious wounds on his head. She was arrested in August, just weeks before she was to referee in the US Open in New York.
Officials claimed she beat him to death with a coffee cup. But prosecutors received new information in November and dropped the charges. Her DNA was not found on the mug and she passed a lie detector test.
