Flashback: 'Filthy' Filner Wanted Rule Change for U.S.-Mexico Cross-Border Olympics

San Diego Mayor Bob “filthy” Filner, who has reportedly agreed to resign from office after more than a dozen women have accused him of various forms of sexual harassment, said in May that he would be “undaunted” in his pursuit of a U.S.-Mexico cross-border Olympics with Tijuana.

Even after the United States Olympic Committee informed him “that international rules prevent” Mexico and the United States from pursuing a joint Olympics bid, Filner said the rules should be changed to allow the bid.

“The true spirit of the Olympics embodies my conviction that we should vigorously pursue the dream of having two countries host the Olympics in the greatest bi-national region of the world. Rules and bylaws can be changed,” Filner said in May. “Even if we lose, we win.”
