Sports Illustrated's Peter King Will No Longer Use 'Redskins' in 'MMQB' Articles

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, who is one of the most preeminent football writers, will no longer publish “Redskins” on his “The Monday Morning Quarterback” (TheMMQB) website.

Robert Klemko, of the highly-trafficked website, told CBS Sports Radio on Thursday, “I know that our site, we’ve talked about it, and we’re not going to use Redskins in our writing.”

Instead all “MMQB” articles will refer to the Washington Redskins as the “Washington football team.”

“And it’s not something we’re going to publicize or write about,” Klemko said. “We’re just not going to do it.”

As CBS notes, “TheMMQB.com, an offshoot of Sports Illustrated, is a preeminent source for NFL news, and collectively, its feature writers – made up of Robert Klemko, Greg Bedard, Jenny Vrentas and the site’s founder, Peter King – account for more than 1.2 million Twitter followers.”

Other publications–such as the Washington City Paper, the Kansas City Star, Slate, the New Republic, and Mother Jones–have all decided not to use “Redskins” in their articles. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has even referred to the “Redskins” as the Washington “R-words.”
