On Saturday, 112,618 gathered in the Big House to see their beloved Michigan Wolverines start their 2013 season against Central Michigan with their 15th straight home win, which is the second-longest such streak in the nation.
The Michigan faithful were not disappointed and certainly everyone memorized “Hail! to the Victors” by the end of the 59-9 win.
It did not take long for the defense to show their fans they were back and better than ever. They held Central Michigan on their first drive, and at 12:56 Dymonte Thomas blocked the punt and Joe Reynolds ran it for a 30-yard touchdown to give Michigan a 7-0 lead before the offense even touched the ball.
Michigan forced Central Michigan to punt again, but their first offensive drive was one quarterback Devin Gardner would like to forget. They had the ball on the 7-yard line and Gardner threw an interception. Central was at the Michigan 6-yard line. Their defense came to their rescue again, though, and held them to a field goal.
That was pretty much it for Central Michigan. Michigan managed to gain composure and take over the game despite the interceptions by Gardner. He did have seven carries for 57 yards and two touchdowns. He only managed one passing touchdown to Jeremy Gallon. Running back Fitzgerald Toussaint had 14 carries for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
Michigan scored on every single possession or turnover recovery. They did not have a single punt in the game. Not only that, but the win was a team effort. Six different Wolverines scored: Gardner, Touissaint, Gallon, Reynolds, Derrick Green, and Thomas Rawls. Brendan Gibbons had eight good points and one good field goal. He has completed 14 straight field goals.
