Texas DC Diaz Fired After Historically Bad Performance

Despite having arguably the most talented defensive personnel in the country, Texas defensive coordinator Manny Diaz simply could not get the job done. As a result, he was given the boot by Longhorns head coach Mack Brown, who is undeniably on the hot seat himself.

The decision comes after the Longhorns gave up 550 rushing yards to the BYU Cougars, who lost to lowly Virginia (who were CRUSHED by the Oregon Ducks Saturday) the previous week. BYU pummeled Texas 40-21

Many, including myself, pegged Texas as a surprise contender given the incredible talent they had returning. Although still early in the season, Saturday’s loss indicates 2013 may be another long year for the once dominant Longhorns.

Diaz was hired by Brown after one year as the defensive coordinator for Mississippi State. At the time, he was seen as a rising star, but that never materialized for the Horns. He is replaced by former Texas DC and Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson.
