The Saints wasted no time getting to the top of the NFC South Week 1 Ratings in Sean Payton’s return, beating the Dolphins while the Panthers and Bucs let games slip away late. Cam Newton’s 125 yard passing, albeit against a tough Seahawks defense, was the day’s biggest disappointment for a quarterback who played so well in the second half of 2012 and he will need to improve when they travel to Buffalo this week. The Week 1 Ratings:
|NFC SOUTH||Massey||Better/Worse||1-day rank||Result|
|New Orleans||2.3||6||5.3||won vs Atl 23-17|
|Atlanta||5.1||-6||2.1||lost at NO 17-23|
|Carolina||1.8||-2||0.8||lost vs. Sea 7-12|
|Tampa Bay||-0.2||-4||-2.2||lost at NYJ 17-18|
The 1-day rank is the average between how many points better or worse than average each team is on www.masseyratings.com and how many points better or worse the team did in that game than the expected point spread on www.masseyratings.com. A “+5.0” means the team was considered 5 points better than the average team in the league that day.
