Phil Jackson Producing TV Show About Family Who Runs Basketball Team

Former Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson will produce a television show for Showtime about a family that runs a professional basketball franchise.

According to Variety, Showtime “is developing a one-hour scripted series that takes a peek behind the scenes of a professional basketball team, with NBA coaching great Phil Jackson and current Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis on board as exec producers.”

Jackson is engaged to the daughter of the late Laker owner Jerry Buss, who transformed the NBA and ushered in the “Showtime” era not just in Los Angeles, but throughout the NBA.

Jeanie Buss, the daughter and senior vice president of the Lakers, is also close to Kurt Rambis’s wife, Linda. Both of them will also be producers.

Many in the Lakers family believe that Jeanie Buss is best suited to run the day-to-day operations of the team, which is currently done by Buss’s son, Jim, whom many believe has been responsible for the franchise’s downfall. Jim Buss also reportedly has been uncomfortable with his sister’s relationship with Jackson.
