Chiefs Deliver Victory for Andy Reid in His First Trip Back to Philadelphia

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid was successful in his first trip back to Philadelphia since the Eagles fired him after last season asthe Kansas City Chiefs beat the Eagles 26-16 on Thursday. The high-flying Eagles offense sputtered, but the Eagles still had a chance to win until the Chiefs puttogether a game-clinching 15-play, 8-minute drive that ended with afield goal to push the score to 26-16.

With the Eagles only down 7 points and the Chiefs facing third down insidetheir own 10-yard line, it seemed like Michael Vick and the Eagles wouldget the ball with plenty of time to score. However, Kansas Cityquarterback Alex Smith converted on a 15-yard pass to Donnie Avery on third down thatkept the drive alive. Avery had 7 catches for 141 yards on the night forKansas City. The Chiefs also received a big performance from their starrunning back Jamaal Charles, who compiled 172 total yards and atouchdown.

Chip Kelly’s fast paced offense was out of sync from the beginning ofthe game, with Vick throwing 2 interceptions in his first 11pass attempts. Vick had his weakest performance of the season, turning the ball over 3 times (2 interceptions and 1 fumble). The Eaglesalso had a fumbled punt and a botched snap for turnovers.

The night almost got significantly worse for the Eagles when itappeared star running back LeSean McCoy had seriously injured his legjust before halftime. However, McCoy returned to the game in thesecond half and ended the night with 158 yards rushing and a touchdown. The Chiefs move to 3-0 on the season while the Eagles fall to 1-2.
