Analyst Apologizes to Tiger for Cheating Accusations: 'I Went Too Far'

Golf analyst Brandel Chamblee apologized to Tiger Woods on Wednesday for accusing him of being a cheater, saying his comments “went too far.”

“In offering my assessment of Tiger to you, and specifically looking at the incidents in Abu Dhabi, Augusta, Ponte Vedra and Chicago, I said Tiger Woods was cavalier about the rules. I should have stopped right there,” Chamblee said on the Golf Channel. “In comparing those incidents to my cheating episode in the fourth grade, I went too far.”

Chamblee continued to emphasize he had made a “mistake” and said because the column appeared on Golf.com, nobody “here at Golf Channel knew anything about it.”

“Cheating involves intent,” Chamblee said. “There’s no way that I could know with 100 percent certainty what Tiger’s intent was in any of those situations. That was my mistake.”

Chamblee gave Woods an “F” for the past season, highlighting four high-profile rules violation that Chamblee had said indicated Woods was a “cheater.”
