The Professional Union of Soccer Clubs in France has said the 75% “super tax” soccer players will not be exempt from threatens to “kill” French soccer.
The union made the comments after French Socialist President Francois Hollande “refused to exclude soccer clubs from the hefty tax, after meeting with industry representatives on Thursday.”
As CNN notes, the soccer league plans to strike for the first time this month for the first time in 40 years, and they “argue the tax will make the league less competitive and fear losing players to high-paying European rivals.”
The tax, which is becoming more unpopular in the country, was a central part of Hollande’s 2012 platform when he ran for president.
