Former Dolphins Player: Incognito Considered 'Honorary' Black Man

A former Miami Dolphins player said Richie Incognito, the lineman whom the Miami Dolphins indefinitely suspended after voicemails came to light in which Incognito threatened Dolphins player Jonathan Martin with the “N-word,” was reportedly thought of as an “honorary” black person in the Miami Dolphins locker room.

“Richie is honorary,” a “player who left the Dolphins this offseason” told the Miami Herald‘s Armando Salguero. “I don’t expect you to understand because you’re not black. But being a black guy, being a brother is more than just about skin color. It’s about how you carry yourself. How you play. Where you come from. What you’ve experienced. A lot of things.”

Incognito was also caught on tape using the “N-word,” but many of Incognito’s black teammates have expressed support for him.

Below is a transcript of a voicemail Incognito left Martin that was reportedly one of many incidents in which Incognito allegedly harassed Martin:

“Hey, wassup, you half n—– piece of s—. I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. [I want to] s— in your f—ing mouth. [I’m going to] slap your f—ing mouth. [I’m going to] slap your real mother across the face [laughter]. F— you, you’re still a rookie. I’ll kill you.”
