Bobcats Coach Steve Clifford Hospitalized

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 8 (UPI) —

Charlotte Bobcats Coach Steve Clifford was hospitalized overnight and his status for Friday’s NBA game versus the New York Knicks was unknown.

Clifford, 52, checked himself into a Charlotte hospital after reportedly not feeling well and was undergoing tests Friday, the team said Friday.

Assistant head coach Patrick Ewing is expected to lead the team if Clifford is unable to coach Friday.

The Bobcats are 3-2 this season going into Friday’s game against New York.

Clifford is the third major sports coach to be hospitalized in the last week.

Denver Broncos Coach John Fox underwent heart surgery and Houston Texans Coach Gary Kubiak collapsed at halftime of his team’s game last Sunday and has been diagnosed as having had a minor stroke. Both NFL coaches have been replaced on an interim basis by their defensive coordinators.
