Spurs Coach Popovich Rips Cuts to Food Stamps for Vets

Before Veteran’s Day, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg criticized the federal food stamp program that has been cut, which will impact approximately 5,000 troops. According to USA Today, “a family of four that gets $668 per month in benefits will find that amount cut by $36.”

“In a lot of ways, it’s a joyous day if we all remember to honor people,” Popovich said of Veteran’s Day, according to USA Today. “But in some ways, it’s a sad day because (soldiers and veterans) don’t really get honored the way they should be. Some of it is just pablum. When it comes down to the nuts and bolts of what they need, they’re really not getting everything.

Popovich, an Air Force veteran, made his comments when a record number of Americans are on food stamps and President Barack Obama has been accused of prioritizing funds for First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” program over food stamps.
