Tactical Rifles: Get 'Em While They're Cheap

Tactical Rifles: Get 'Em While They're Cheap

While firearm prices remain low, it is a great time to get a tactical rifle. And while the most popular of tactical rifles are AR-15 and AK-47 variants, an SKS or AR-10 ought not be overlooked.

Each of these rifles is easy to accessorize and bulk ammo can be had in a cost effective manner from an online ammo supply like AmmoForSale.com.

The newest AR-15s are chambered in 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem (you can get great prices .223 ammo in bulk right now). AR-15s have a piston in the rear stock that takes the recoil for you, so fathers can shoot this gun with their sons or mothers can shoot this gun with their daughters, and everyone will enjoy it.

An AR-15 is a great gun for plinking, for property defense, and for hunting, in states where hunting with a tactical rifle is legal.

In West Texas an AR-15 is a great gun for coyotes and even deer. For those ranchers in West Texas who are looking for a gun they can count on to defend their property, the AR-15 fits the bill again.

The AK-47 is very similar to the AR-15 in shooter controls, albeit with slightly greater recoil and a gas operated action. Like the AR-15, the AK-47 is a gun that fathers can enjoy with their sons and mothers with their daughters.

The AK-47 uses 7.62 x 39 ammo, which can be purchased in bulk even cheaper than .223. It fits the same applications that the AR-15 and is as easy to accessorize as the AR.

20 and 30-round magazines, and beyond, are easy to find for either gun. And the prices are both rifles are similar. Gun stores like Scottsdale Gun Club regularly sell certain models of AR-15s and AK-47s for about $800.

If you buy your AK-47 at an outlet like CheaperThanDirt.com, the price is slightly lower but keep in mind you must pay shipping, taxes, and an FFL fee on top of the advertised price (and contrary to the rhetoric of the left, you still have to do a background check even if you purchase the firearm online).

An SKS is a cheaper gun than the AK-47, yet unquestionably reliable. It shoots the same 7.62 x 39 ammo that the AK shoots. During the Vietnam War, the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese were armed with these rifles and we saw then that these guns could be wet, muddy, dirty, or otherwise abused, yet fire every time someone pulled the trigger.

An SKS can be accessorized to a degree and 20 and 30-round magazines for them are plentiful.

The problem with buying an SKS is finding one to buy. Because of their lower price they have disappeared from many gun store shelves.

An AR-10 is a generic name for an AR-15 that is chambered in .308 instead of .223. An AR-10 is a great gun for hunting in states where wild pigs, coyotes, and larger deer are abundant (again, granting that the state allows tactical weapons to be used for hunting).

And an AR-10 can be accessorized as easily as an AR-15.

If you already have a good handgun and a reliable shotgun, it may be time to add a tactical rifle to your collection of firearms. Prices are certainly right at the moment.
