Man Killed in Parking Lot of Kansas City Chiefs Stadium

On the one-year anniversary of the murder-suicide of Kansas City Chiefs player Jovan Belcher, one man was reportedly killed in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot 90 minutes after the Broncos and Chiefs kicked off on Sunday. The incident was reportedly not between fans of opposing teams.

Two people are reportedly in custody, and the Kansas City Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation.

According to Sports Illustrated, “a white male in his mid-20s died just after 5 p.m. CT — approximately 90 minutes after kickoff.” KCTV reported that “a man and his son had gone to their Jeep during the game. When they arrived, they found a man who they say they didn’t know sitting inside the SUV. Detectives are working to determine whether the man had broken into the vehicle or was mistakenly in the wrong vehicle. An initial report from police said the man was rifling through the vehicle.”

The outlet also noted that as “the man and the Jeep owner began to fight, the owner’s young son ran for help. The man who was found in the Jeep collapsed onto the pavement. He was rushed to the hospital, where he would die. The man was described as in his mid 20s.”
