NFL Fines Steelers Coach $100K for Interfering with Kickoff Return

NFL Fines Steelers Coach $100K for Interfering with Kickoff Return

The NFL fined Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin $100,000 on Wednesday for stepping on the field of play and interfering with Baltimore Ravens returner Jacoby Jones’s kickoff return during a Thanksgiving night game.

The league also said it would consider taking away future draft picks from the Steelers for Tomlin’s actions. Tomlin has said he did not intentionally step on the field of play while he was looking at the return on the Jumbotron, but the punishment may have been harsher because Tomlin is on the NFL’s competition committee.

The league also said a 15-yard penalty should have been called on Tomlin.

The $100,000 fine is reportedly the fourth fine of $100,000 or greater. Only New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who was fined $550,00 for his role in the “Spygate” scandal, has been fined a greater amount.
