DC Clergy, Indian Tribe Run Ads Demanding Redskins Name Change

This weekend, sixty members of the clergy in Washington, D.C. will partner with the Oneida Nation to run radio ads urging the Washington Redskins to change their name before the team’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The clergy members, who are reportedly all from the D.C. area, signed a letter to the NFL and Redskins owner Dan Snyder and formally requested the Redskins change their “offensive and inappropriate name,” and are highlighting the letter in ads that are airing on Washington’s WTOP-FM (103.5) and WPRS Praise-FM (104.1) stations this weekend. The clergy members and the Oneida Nation did not buy any ads urging the Chiefs to change their mascot.

The radio spots are reportedly part of the Oneida Indian Nation’s “Change the Mascot” campaign.
