The San Francisco 49ers closed out San Francisco’s famed Candlestick Park on Monday with a 34-24 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. San Francisco Giants and 49ers greats were in attendance to witness the last regular season game at the historic stadium that was home to “The Catch” and winds that were so legendary that it made it impossible at times for fielders to catch pop flys and even blew a pitcher off the mound.
Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, the Alou brothers, Will Clark, Barry Bonds, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jerry Rice, and Bill Walsh were some of the legends that played at Candlestick, a park that was strong enough to survive one of the most destructive earthquakes in California during the 1989 World Series.
