NFL Fines Sherman $7,875 for 'Taunting' Unrelated to Post-game Rant

NEW YORK, Jan. 24 (UPI) —

The NFL fined Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman $7,875 Friday for unsportsmanlike conduct displayed during last weekend’s NFC Championship contest.

Sherman made a choking gesture at the San Francisco bench following his interception in the end zone during the final minute of the game that clinched a Seattle victory and a trip to the Super Bowl.

No action was taken by the league against Sherman for his post-game interview conducted by sideline reporter Erin Andrews. During that rant Sherman screamed that he was the best cornerback in pro football and demeaned the abilities of San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree.

Sherman later apologized for those remarks.
