Sochi 2014: USA Women's Hockey Falls to Canada, 3-2

The women of Canada and America renewed their rivalry on Wednesday in Sochi and once again, Canada left as the winner. Canada won 3-2, but both teams proved they will meet in the gold medal game.

America is looking for revenge after they lost the gold in Vancouver four years ago to Canada and played tough for the first two periods. Hilary Knight gave the US a 1-0 lead with power play goal with only 2:21 left in the second period. Knight has a goal in all three games.

Canada came rushing out in the third period and the US gave up two goals in a 1:33 span to give Canada a 2-1 lead. Megan Agosta scored and then it appeared US goalie Jesse Vetter stopped Hayley Wickenheiser’s goal, but a video review showed the puck passing under Vetter’s pad and across the line.

Agosta scored again and the US pulled Vetter. Anne Schleper scored to make it 3-2, but Canada was ready to defend the lead. They killed off a US power play in the final minute to win the game.
