Sochi 2014: Great Britain Women's Curling Team Sets Another Olympic Record

The Great Britain women’s curling team set another Olympic record when they stole five points in one end against Japan on Friday. They won 12-3.

“Unfortunately you don’t get any prizes (for breaking records),” British curler Anna Sloan said. “But it is always good and it shows that we are performing well and going in the right direction towards the end of the round-robin.”

This equaled their Olympic record from Tuesday when they scored seven points against the USA in their six-end win. Now Eve Muirhead’s team is in third place after two disappointing losses to Sweden and Canada. The top four teams will move to the semifinals, which start on Wednesday.

“The momentum has been starting to build and we continued it today,” said Muirhead.

“None of these teams are going to be easy, we knew Japan were going to come out sharp and we knew we had to come out firing from the start and that is exactly what we did.

“The girls are all playing really well, setting me up to play these shots – it was a good solid team performance.”

The USA women are on the brink of elimination after they lost 9-2 to Denmark on Friday. They are 1-5.
