Sochi 2014: US Women's Curling Team On Edge of Elimination

The US women’s curling team suffered another devastating loss on Friday and are on the brink of elimination. They needed to beat Denmark, but lost 9-2 when they conceded after eight ends.

They are now 1-5 and in last place in the round-robin standings. Denmark is also 1-5, but they now own the tiebreaker. No team in the previous Olympics advanced after five loses.

“We’re not going to start crying yet,” said the 41-year-old [Erika] Brown, who is competing in her third and likely final Olympics. “We’re going to think about all the things we did to get here.”

The top four teams advance to the semifinals, which start on Wednesday. As of Friday morning these teams are Canada, Sweden, China and Great Britain. A tiebreak game is scheduled for Tuesday if one is needed.

USA plays Sweden next, who are 4-1.
