Minnesota Police Association Sues NFL for Disarming Off-Duty Officers

The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA) is suing the NFL over a new stadium policy barring off-duty police officers from carrying sidearms into the stadium.

The MPPOA says the NFL’s gun ban “violates state law, and could put the public and officers in danger.”

According to The Washington Times, off-duty officers are accustomed to keeping their weapons with them in case some need arises.

But as Breitbart News reported on October 7th, NFL head of security Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL) believes NFL-game security is such that off-duty officers will not need their guns.

Police unions in Cleveland have complained as well, with Cleveland-area union president Jeff Tiller stressing, “You never know what’s going to happen or when it’s going to happen.” For this reason, he believes off-duty police officers should be allowed to carry their sidearms.

The NFL had no comment on the lawsuit filed on behalf of Minnesota police.
