More Sochi 2014 Injuries: Bode Miller Hurts Knee, Out of Olympics

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) — Bode Miller tweaked his surgically repaired left knee during the first run of Wednesday’s Olympic giant slalom and is out of the slalom race this weekend.

Miller was 26th in the opening GS leg, finishing in 1 minute, 23.64 seconds, more than 2½ seconds slower than leader Ted Ligety.

The men’s slalom is scheduled for Saturday, the last Alpine event of the Sochi Games.

Miller owns a U.S.-record six Olympic Alpine medals, including a bronze in the super-G last weekend that made him, at 36, the oldest ski racer to win a Winter Games medal. He said Wednesday that his knee bothered him after that race, and it’s been swollen during these Olympics.

He missed all of last season while coming back from a knee operation.
