Ozzie Smith Seeking National Holiday for MLB Opening Day

NEW YORK, Feb. 25 (UPI) —
Beer brand Budweiser and Major League Baseball legend Ozzie Smith are teaming for a campaign to make MLB opening day a national holiday.

Budweiser, the official beer of Major League Baseball, and Smith, a former St. Louis Cardinals’ shortstop and a member of the Hall of Fame, announced their petition on WhiteHouse.gov went live Tuesday, and they are hoping for 100,000 signatures by March 31 to support their quest to get a national holiday for opening day, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday.

Budweiser said it is running digital ads supporting the petition on ESPN.com and MLB.com.
