Luke Donald’s poor start at the Masters on Thursday got worse after the round when he was told a patron at Augusta national called in a two-stroke penalty on the ninth hole, which he double bogeyed.
That turned into a quadruple-bogey four after the penalty for grounding his club in the sand after he failed to get out of the bunker with his first bunker shot.
But unlike the Tiger Woods fiasco last year after his drop on the 15th hole, “Donald was informed of the penalty after his round but prior to signing his scorecard,” a Masters spokesperson told Yahoo Sports.
Donald thought he shot a 5-over 77 only to find out his score for the day was a seven-over 79.
Got a 2 shot penalty on the 9th today. Left my bunker shot in the bunker and touched the sand before my next shot. Pretty dumb mistake

I can accept the odd poor shot but making a mistake like that is pretty frustrating and so unlike me…..
