On Friday, Milwaukee’s Martin Maldonado literally knocked the cover off the baseball against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the top of the sixth inning. It wasn’t quite Roy Hobbs in The Natural — Maldonado ended up hitting a grounder to third base.
But he reached based safely when third baseman Pedro Alvarez struggled to throw the ball to first base.
