Gregg Popovich Named NBA Coach of the Year

Gregg Popovich won the NBA’s Coach of the Year honors today.

The coach led the San Antonio Spurs to a league-best 62-20 record. Popovich claims his third Red Auerbach Trophy and his second such nod in three seasons.

Popovich’s eighteen years in San Antonio make for the longest tenure of any coach in the four major American team sports. He has won four NBA titles during that period. The Spurs hold a 1-0 edge on the Dallas Mavericks in the opening round of the playoffs as the team aims to bring Popovich “one for the thumb” after this year’s NBA Finals.
