It’s the sports equivalent of the Chicago Tribune announcing “Dewey Defeats Truman” or NBC calling the 2000 presidential election for Al Gore.
The Milwaukee Brewers sent fans tickets for the team’s second playoff appearance in 32 years. But last night’s loss to the Cincinnati Reds eliminated the Brew Crew from playoff contention. Milwaukee’s collapse–going 10-23 since August 20–allowed both St. Louis and Pittsburgh to surpass them in the standings.
For 150 days this spring and summer, Milwaukee looked down at the National League Central from the top. They play 162 games for a reason.
