New York Jets coach Rex Ryan punked Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins by jumping in at the end of a conference call with the first-round draft pick and pretending to be a reporter asking a question.
Ryan’s own son, Seth, played at Clemson University with Watkins last year. Coach Ryan put in the query on Wednesday at Watkins, asking the player how he helped Seth out on the Tigers.
The joke question came at the end of the presser at about the five minute mark into the interview.
Coach Ryan jumped in, asking, “Sammy, I’ve got a question, uh, how did you help Seth Ryan out, how’d he do out there? And, if you could really help him, you wouldn’t play this game. This sounds like Rex Ryan, I know it does, but this is a reporter.”
Since he didn’t reply right away, Ryan went on to say, ” How you doin’ Sammy, ya all right?”
It certainly seemed that Watkins was nonplused, and he didn’t seem to know what to say to Ryan’s little joke.
Finally, Watkins hesitantly replied, “Hey, how you doing?” causing the room of reporters to erupt in laughter.
