Golf Turns Deadly

A 29-year-old man searching for golf balls in a lake lost his life in a crocodile attack in South Africa.

The 13-foot reptile attacked Jacques Van der Sandt at Skukuza Golf Course, a nine-hole course at Kruger National Park, on Wednesday. The attack occurred at night as the golfer walked waist deep in the water looking for errant balls.

Deaths on the golf course are rare but not unknown. Every few years, balls striking oblivious golfers or grounds crew members kill. There’s a reason to yell “Fore!”

“It’s an unfortunate incident where a promising life was cut short; our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim,” said the national park’s Freek Venter. “Investigations are on-going to establish the exact circumstances as it was an unnatural death.”

The croc soon joined Van der Sandt on the Great Golf Course in the Sky. Park rangers executed the prehistoric beast for its crimes against humanity after searching for it for two hours.
