Florida’s Last Second ‘Own Goal’ Wins It for Florida State

Jacob Kurtz

Florida State’s Devon Bookert took the game-winning shot. Florida’s Jacob Kurtz put it in the basket–for Florida State.

The “own goal” proved the difference in the game. Kurtz’s inadvertent basket came with less than a half second left on the clock Tuesday night. The game, tied before the junior forward knocked the ball in the wrong hoop, finished 65-63 to the delight of the Tallahassee crowd.

Florida coach Billy Donovan tried to shift blame from his player to the team.

“We lost on a fluke play,” Donovan explained after the game. “But even if that play didn’t happen, what’s to say they still wouldn’t have won that game in overtime? You don’t know what would have happened.”

We just know what did happen.
