Nutter Tries to Kill San Diego Sportscaster

Kyle Kraska Shooting

Police in Southern California late Tuesday night arrested a man suspected of shooting a local sportscaster.

Kyle Kraska endured bullet wounds to his leg and stomach when a man opened fire on his Mercedes at his Scripps Ranch home. The ambush shooting put Kraska, a sportscaster for San Diego’s CBS affiliate who hosts the Chargers postgame show, in surgery. Doctors expect Kraska to recover.

Mike Montana, former president of the Superior Painting Corp. and a manager with Superior Tool & Supply, drew police attention after witnesses spotted a Superior Painting van fleeing the scene. The company reportedly had painted Kraska’s home several months ago.

Cops arrested the painter after a lengthy standoff.

Montana, 54, has become the subject of several civil suits and allegedly left phone messages deemed threatening by a neighbor. Kraska’s station reported a neighbor’s belief that the alleged shooter relied on psychotropic drugs.
