Tiger Woods Replaced By Rory McIlroy on PGA Tour Video Game

Electronic Arts Inc. announced the replacement of  Tiger Woods on the cover of their PGA Tour game with Rory McIlroy on Monday.

From 1998 until 2013 Tiger Woods basically owned the EA Sports golf video game cover. Yet, in 2013 EA Sports saw fit to part ways with Woods, making  Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 the final game in the franchise.

With Rory now the number-one ranked player in the world and Tiger holding on to the number 87 spot, the transformed cover should come as no surprise.

Back in 2011 EA Sports prepared golf video game fans for the rise of Rory, when it graced the game cover with a split picture of Woods and McIlroy.

From 1998 to 2009 Tiger was the number-one ranked golfer in the world with the exception of 2004, when he fell to number two behind Vijay Singh. McIlroy captured the number-one spot in August, which leaves him a mere twelve years to go if he wants to be mentioned in the same breath as Tiger. Nevertheless, many expect the 25-year-old Irish golfer, already the winner of four Major titles, to sit atop the world rankings for years to come.

The Rory McIlroy PGA Tour 15 game will be released in June.
