Even America’s most famous White Sox fan congratulates the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 Tuesday night to eliminate their divisional rivals and clinch a berth in the NLCS. President Barack Obama issued a congratulatory tweet from the White House on the Cubs winning their first postseason series at Wrigley Field.

Many White Sox fans despise their National League counterpart. One Chicago bar, for instance, offered free beer whenever Cardinals players homered during the series. But Obama chose to stay loyal to his adopted hometown by adopting the Cubs as a playoff favorite.

“With the Sox out, I’ll be rooting for the Cubs to win the Series,” Obama emailed the Chicago Tribune last week. “They’re due. They’ve got great young players, and I’m a [Joe] Maddon fan. That’s an official statement.”
