The official Twitter feed for the Philadelphia 76ers featured a slam on John Kasich, Ohio’s Republican governor and GOP candidate for president. The team quickly deleted the message, but not before it raised eyebrows.

The 76ers tweet came after ABC digital journalist Ben Gittleson reported that Kasich supposedly delivered an insult to the 76ers during a speech in New Hampshire.

Gittleson posted the following tweets about Kasich’s comments:

Following Gittleson’s reporting, someone running the 76ers official Twitter account slapped back at Kasich sarcastically using his low standing in the polls as a means to return an insult. The tweet was quickly deleted but not before Gittleson got a screen capture of the tweet and reposted the image.

Some have noted that the NBA team doesn’t have much room to poke at others over low ratings. Long one of the NBA’s worst teams, the 76ers missed the playoffs for the last three seasons. They’ve been so terrible that they couldn’t even break the NBA consecutive losses record in 2013-2014 when their bad-luck streak stopped just short of the 27 defeats needed to become the NBA’s version of the Washington Generals. Further, the two players they drafted in the first round after that horrific campaign didn’t play in a single game during last season.

When 2014-15 season was all over, the Sixers ranked as one of the worst teams in the league, beaten out only by the New York Knicks.

Though the team’s 1973 season still ranks as the second worst season in NBA history, the franchise boasts multiple championships, including a title in 1983 that capped off one of the dominant seasons in NBA history. But to loosely paraphrase what Rick Pitino once said of their Eastern Conference rivals, Wilt Chamberlain, Dr. J., and Moses Malone aren’t walking through that door.
