Fan Shines Laser in Texans QB’s Eyes During Mexico City Game

The black and silver got in Brock Osweiller’s face all night. Then a green laser did.

The schedule listed it as a home game for the Oakland Raiders. The Mexican fans sure made it feel like one.

The Houston Texans quarterback endured the “very distracting” beam from the stands during the game in Mexico City. The QB, sacked twice by the Oakland Raiders, threw a pick and a touchdown in the loss. He says that dodging a laser comes as a first in more than a decade of playing football.

“I’ve never experienced a laser being shined in my eyeball during a football game, let alone a professional football game in the National Football League,” the quarterback told reporters. “So I think that was certainly disappointing. But at the end of the day, that’s not why we lost the game. That was just one small factor. But it certainly affected how I was playing.”

Like hearing chants of “puto,” which roughly translates to “faggot,” the laser beam came as something unusual for players accustomed to rowdy behavior from fans manifesting in very different ways.

The Oakland Raiders won the tight game, which included its share of controversial calls, 27-20.

Osweiller, though not blaming the outcome on the green distraction, points out that “when we were out there on the field on offense, there were multiple times I saw a green laser coming from the stands. There were a couple of times it definitely hit me in the eye. And it was very noticeable.”
