Colin Kaepernick and Snoop Dogg Donate $35,000 to Dallas’ Mothers Against Police Brutality

Colin Kaepernick may not make as much money as he used to, but he sure does spend a lot of money. This time, the former 49er quarterback-turned anthem protester has teamed up with Snoop Dogg and sent money to a group in Dallas that fights against police brutality.

Kaepernick and Snoop Dogg have donated $35,000 to a Dallas-based group calling themselves Mothers Against Police Brutality.

According to WFAA, “Kaepernick teamed up with rapper Snoop Dogg, who matched the $10,000 donation and later added $15,000 more to bring the total donation to $35,000.”

Snoop Dogg said in a statement, “When I heard about the great works he was doing in the community, I decided to pledge $10,000 to match what he’s doing, because I love what he’s doing.”

Mothers Against Police Brutality showed their gratitude to Kaepernick in a video posted to Twitter on Monday afternoon.

Kaepernick’s payment to the group was posted on his Million Dollar Pledge website. The money will be used for the organization’s legal defense fund, and a day of workshops, according to WFAA.

The NFL’s anthem protest movement began in the preseason of 2016, when Kaepernick first sat, then knelt, in protest against police brutality. Kaepernick continued his protest throughout the 2016 season, but has not suited-up for another NFL team since walking away from his contract in San Francisco at the end of that year.

Despite Kaepernick’s absence in 2017, the protest movement he began continued without him. Increasing in intensity during Week 3 of the season, after President Trump blasted the protesting players at a political rally. During that weekend over 200 players, executives, and coaches, protested the anthem and President Trump.

However, after that weekend, the number of protesting players dwindled to the point where only 19 players protested in the final week of the season.
