King briefed on IEC preparations for elections

Amman, Jan. 8 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday met with president and members of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to discuss final preparations for the upcoming parliamentary election.
With only two weeks left before the polls, His Majesty praised the high-level preparations and the speed in which measures, in accordance with best international practices are being undertaken to ensure a smooth election process.
His Majesty urged serious efforts against any exploitation of the election, namely vote buying.
The King said any abuse of political power or so called "political money", will not only affect the transparency of the election, but will adversely affect each and every Jordanian citizen.
King Abdullah also urged the commission president and members to provide the necessary assistance to facilitate the work of regional and international observers assigned to oversee the January 23rd elections.
