British members of parliament tour Saadiyat

WAM Abu Dhabi, April 2nd, 2013 (WAM)--Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), master developer of major tourism, cultural and residential destinations in Abu Dhabi, hosted a delegation of British Members of Parliament (MPs), for a special tour on Saadiyat as part of their visit to Abu Dhabi. The eight MPs were greeted by TDIC's senior management headed by Sultan Al Mahmoud, Executive Director of Strategic Performance at TDIC.

The delegation visited Saadiyat Accommodation Village, the high-quality modern community which TDIC opened in 2009 to accommodate the construction workers employed on Saadiyat's developments. With a capacity to house up to 20,000 workers, the project is designed to international standards with various state-of-the-art social, recreational and educational facilities.

The guests were impressed by the various components of the community such as the accommodation, libraries, gymnasiums and recreational facilities. Of the visit, Mark Menzies, Member of Parliament for Fylde, said: "What I saw here today I was certainly very impressed with.

The important thing was that TDIC is providing decent accommodation, welfare, and medical facilities for the workforce. When you have people who are coming here and travelling from their families, it's nice to see that TDIC has put some effort into making sure that they have good facilities and services. I think that's very important. I was also reassured that people could come and go and that transportation is available for them." The delegation also toured Manarat Al Saadiyat's exhibition, ï؟½The Saadiyat Story', which showcases the major existing and upcoming projects on the island. During the tour, the delegation received an update on the Saadiyat Cultural District, which will be home to major cultural museums, including Zayed National Museum, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and Louvre Abu Dhabi, where construction work is underway following the recent appointment of a contractor earlier this year.
