Abu Ghazaleh appointed as Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League


Cairo, Sep. 2 (Petra) – The Council of the League of Arab States at its 140th session on Sunday decided to appoint Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh as Assistant Secretary- General of the League for the coming five years.




Dr. Abu Ghazaleh served as Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquates, member of the Jordanian Upper House of Parliament, the Regional Programmer Director for the Arab States Regional Office at the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and Secretary General to the Family Council for Family Affairs in 2005.




Abu Ghazaleh was also nominated for the Noble Peace Prize following her nomination selection for the ‘1000 women for Noble Peace Prize 2005’. She is also Laureate of numerous prestigious international and regional women leadership awards.




She obtained her Masters Degree in Educational Counseling from the University of Jordan in 1978.




The new Assistant Secretary-General also has published extensively on the subjects of Education, Counseling and Gender & Development, CEDAW indicators, "Arab Women CEDAW+30", Regional strategy on Women, Peace and Security.




Moreover, Abu Ghazaleh is a founder and member of several national and international organizations
